Farseer 3.0 + Platformer

A couple of days ago i decided that i wanted to use farseer physics engine in my platformer game, and im having some problems implementing it.
So i have a couple of questions that i would be really happy if someone could answer:
1) How can i make my character move realistic (The character is currently a rectangle and a circle)
2) I learned how to use the CollisionEventHandler, but how to check if the character lands on the ground or on top of items, in that case set isOnGround to true

As you have realized i am an extreme beginner with farseer so dont hesitate to explain the obvious ! :)
