Is it bad to have continous contacts?

Say I create a large box and place a small box inside it. The large and small box are set to return 'false' in the OnContact callbacks. So they never colide but they are constnatly generating oncontacts.

Could this cause issues to performance later down the line or is it ok to do? I ask because I was doing something like this for the iPhone (MonoTouch farseer port) and was noticing huge performance dips. I'm not quite sure it was the fault of the way I was handling the collisions or if it was something tied to the fact, all I know is when I removed this type of collision performance improved.
