Farseer Physics Engine 3.4 Changelist

Oct 22, 2011 at 10:32 PM

Here is a list of all the new features and improvements that will be in Farseer Physics Engine 3.4.

To do:

  1. SPH - Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics
  2. Speed improvements to the broad phase
  3. Speed improvements with optimized cache coherency
  4. Speed improvements on complex scenes and sleeping bodies
  5. Soft weld joint
  6. Remove the winding order and convexity requirements for polygon shapes
  7. Improvements to the serialization
  8. Improvements to loop shapes
  9. Smooth collision with edges

Once features are implemented, they will be marked as done.

Awesome! Nice to see that this project continues evolving.

Will you update WP7 project to Mango?

Oct 23, 2011 at 1:44 AM

When the time comes to update the project files, I will update it to Mango.

Just for your information: Not many people know this, but the Microsoft Compact Framework team actually used Farseer Physics Engine as the testbed for their SIMD implementation in Mango. I had direct contact to the team while they developed it; to answer all their questions etc.

thats nice!

i'm waiting for #1 since 3.2 >.<

btw how much particles will be possible in a normal world (~50 dynamic bodys + 50 static ones) without causing lag?

I'm sorry about the delay with the SPH feature, it is hard enough trying to keep up with Erin from Box2D with the little amount of time I have for FPE.

I'm unsure about the amount of particles on a normal machine. I have a prototype that I've tested on, but it is not optimized and it only runs on an older version of FPE. It will get back to you with some stats on the implementation once I'm done upgrading FPE.

that's pretty cool.

Looking forward to see the new version of farseer.

I changed the following to the original post:

10. Support for iPhone / iPod / Android

Well, I would have if the save button was working... (shaking fist at codeplex)

it would be also great if you would add normal particles (point mass) that collides with bodys but not with themself (because lots of small circles are not optional).

thanks :)

#10 sounds great with Android/Iphone support, but how will this work? And do you know when we could expect this to be working? :)

Probably with Monogame.
