Tile based engine - Platformer

I'm making a 2D platformer and i've got a simple method of map implementation where you just read a string and put bodies/draw images appropriately.

But when the player character moves along he gets stuck on the none existent gaps which connect the squares. I realise the way I'm doing it isn't the best way to implement maps but I was just wondering if there was something I could do as a quick work around. Not looking for this game to be perfect :)

One solution could be to instead of creating many small objects you read ahead in the file and create one long object, with some limit so the blocks don't become too big.

Thanks for the reply.

Decided instead to change the shape of my player body so it didn't catch on the corners of the squares. Seems to have worked ok! thanks anyway.
