Force vs Impulse

I'm having trouble telling the difference between applying a force and an impulse.  I can apply either to a body, and the body will act the same (except that I have to use much larger numbers for forces).  Is it because the force and impulse are being applied each frame?  *confused*

See the post further down for a link to a better explanation.

That makes sense... but do you mean Force is an impulse that takes time into account?  Force = timestep * impulse

There is a pretty good explanation here.

Force is the impulse over time: force = impulse/time
